          Abstract
The year 2024 marked a downturn for China's film industry. The box office has dropped back to levels seen a decade ago, and the number of moviegoers has decreased by 240 million compared to 2015. Despite efforts to attract audiences through lower ticket prices and aggressive early sales, the impact has been limited. The main contributors to box office revenue have been popular films and key release periods. An noticeable trend is the continued shift of the overall box office to third- and fourth-tier cities, along with a steady increase in the market share of imported films. The landscape of film production remains diverse and rich, but comedy films continue to be the most preferred genre among audiences. In the context of economic recovery and adjustment following the pandemic, there have been significant changes in film creation, box office performance, and audience behavior. These changes present multiple challenges for the Chinese film industry.
