An Analysis of Linguistic Memory and Cultural Value in the Ancient Miao Scriptural of the Western Dialect

Abstract

The ancient scriptures of the Miao people are orally formulated in nature, encompassing sacrificial verses, wedding verses, dispute‑resolution verses, ancient songs, epics, and other similar forms. Together, they constitute the oral documents that preserve Miao historical culture. These ancient scriptures possess significant academic value in multiple fields, including ethnology, folklore, linguistics, and ethnic history. Among their various cultural attributes, the distinctive linguistic and cultural value of these texts has been addressed in multidisciplinary research, making them important sources for scholarly investigation.
