Abstract
One of the reasons for "Chinese culture aphasia" in English language teaching is the lack of Chinese cultural content in textbooks. To explore this issue and provide suggestions for future textbook compilation and teaching practice, this study, based on the "Analytical Framework for Cultural Presentation in Foreign Language Textbooks" developed by Zhang Hong and Li Xiaonan, together with the additional dimension of cultural forms proposed by subsequent scholars, adopts content analysis to investigate the presentation characteristics of Chinese culture in the 2019 FLTRP optional senior high school English textbooks (Volumes 4-7) from three aspects: cultural types, forms, and presentation modes. The findings reveal that: in terms of cultural types, modern culture predominates, while traditional culture and revolutionary culture are less represented; regarding cultural forms, figures, products, practices, and ideas are the main forms, with cultural communities and ecology receiving little attention; concerning presentation modes, explicit presentation is dominant (especially cultural texts), while implicit presentation through cultural understanding and language exercises is less common. It is recommended that textbook compilers increase the proportion of revolutionary culture, balance cultural distribution across sections, and strengthen multimodal presentation and cultural practice exercises to enhance students' cultural awareness.
