Abstract
In the era of deep integration between culture and tourism, traditional sports events are encountering new opportunities and challenges for development. This study takes the traditional dragon boat race in Mayang Miao Autonomous County, Hunan Province, as a case to analyze its current development status, the challenges it faces, and the underlying reasons in the context of cultural-tourism integration. The study finds that although the Mayang Dragon Boat Race has profound cultural heritage and local characteristics, it still faces problems such as insufficient cultural connotation exploration, shallow integration of culture and tourism, limited industrial linkage effects, and outdated infrastructure and services. Based on this, the study proposes a development path of "cultural empowerment, multi-dimensional integration, industrial linkage, and technological assistance": deeply refining cultural symbols and spiritual values to create immersive experience scenes; promoting deep integration with intangible cultural heritage, rural tourism, and festival tourism; extending the industrial chain and developing diversified cultural creative products; introducing digital technologies to enhance the viewing experience and expand its reach; improving infrastructure and service support, and strengthening community participation mechanisms. The aim is to provide theoretical reference and practical guidance for the sustainable development of similar traditional sports events across China, helping them preserve cultural essence while energizing the cultural-tourism economy and empowering rural revitalization.
