Abstract
In the Internet era, films play a non-negligible role in the dissemination and shaping of gender concepts. From the perspective of gender theory, this study adopts a comparative analysis method to conduct an in-depth comparative study on the portrayal of male and female roles in Chinese-language films by analyzing 20 representative popular Chinese-language films from 2021 to 2024. The study finds that there are differences in the portrayal of male and female roles in terms of quantity, importance, image, personality, etc., and further explores the influencing factors, aiming to arouse attention to gender equality issues in the film industry and break gender stereotypes.
