Abstract
This paper explores the value of Laozi’s thought on “Wu Wei” (non-action or effortless action) in the construction of spontaneous order within the internet economy in the age of artificial intelligence. It first analyzes the impact of AI on the internet economy and the challenges it presents, including technological characteristics, economic transformations, and issues related to ethics, data security, employment structure, and market monopolies. It then discusses the application pathways of “Wu Wei” thought, such as policy design and regulatory innovations that minimize excessive human intervention, using AI to optimize resource allocation, and establishing fair and transparent market rules. These pathways are illustrated through case studies. Subsequently, the paper presents implementation strategies and policy recommendations, including technology innovation and standards setting, education and talent cultivation, and international cooperation. Finally, it summarizes the research findings, highlighting the theoretical contributions and practical implications of “Wu Wei” thought, and forecasts future research directions, such as integration with other management theories, tracking AI’s impact on market structure, exploring ethical practices, and cross-cultural applications.
